Hi,

I have my friends horse here with me for about a week, since she is on holidays and I am looking after her gelding.
Joe is happy to have a pasture mate, but it turns out he won't go anywhere without his new friend. He gets very upset when I lead him away from this other horse, I don't dare to ride him. When I had him boarded at my friends' barn, he was ok to go inside by himself and be ridden in the arena. He called a few times and got a bit antsy sometimes, but he was fine. But now goes nuts when he can't see his pasture mate.
My friend will pick her horse up again on Tuesday, so do I even bother to work on that or do I just leave it? But then I am just avoiding a problem, am I not? What would you do and how would you go about it?

Have a nice long weekend everyone,
Maple Leaf

Buddy sour can be very difficult to deal with. Since the other horse is going to be leaving soon, I wouldn't worry about it. Unless there is going to be many times when the other horse will be staying with you.

I wouldn't worry about it either, the other horse is leaving soon and your normal routine will re-establish itself.

Thank you for the replies, Pat and Katchina's human. It will be interesting to see what will happen once we start riding together, since my neighbour lives just a few kilometers down the road from us. I suspect she will have to come home with me every time after riding. Joe will not be happy going home by himself and leaving the other horse.
It's strange though, because when I had him boarded that wasn't a problem. Could it be it's now because there is only the two of them?

That is probably why.
