My "Big Pig" was put to sleep on friday
Image

He got VERY skinny very fast so off we go to the exotic specialist and she diagnoses him with Guinea Pig Wasting Syndrome, similar to CWD in deer. Its caused by a virus and it is uncurable. One can provide pallitive care through force feeding and pain control etc. but I thought he was already in too bad a shape and he was suffering. Sad to lose this little guy, we had him for 4 years.

I'm sorry Stacey. It is just as hard to lose the little critters as the big ones. I think you made the right decision. It doesn't sound like he would have had a very good quality of life with that disease.

I'm going to move this post to Rainbow Bridge.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss of that cute little guinea pig! I so love them too. Too sad! :bawl:

Thanks guys, I think my other pig is pretty lonely now. He's getting lots of attention now that he's an "only child"
